Building Context
A Brutalist landmark reclad with a glass exterior in 2017 as part of the Hudson Yards redevelopment. For many years, the penthouse floor was an ice skating rink. Unique characteristics include skylights, full height glass windows, trusses and waffle slab ceilings.
Goals
Our team was given the challenge of building an inspiring office space for 462 employees with an ambitious schedule of 8 months from design kickoff in April to opening day in December.
Outcomes
A design strategy with three main features — activate the double height space, maximize natural light and encourage collaboration. The stepped seating in the atrium is the central design element, inviting you into a spacious center of gravity. Material inspiration was drawn from the nearby High Line, incorporating various greenery and natural materials throughout.
